In late 2018, the city completed a beautification project along Chicago Drive. The landscape design is intended to give Chicago Drive a welcoming appearance. The trees along the north side of Chicago Drive provide some screening from the railroad tracks. The landscaping in the median and on the south side of the road is more detailed, especially in the median for the Service Drive where traffic is moving slower.
The more intricate design serves two purposes. The first is to help to calm traffic through the downtown and the second is to draw motorists’ eyes to the business district on the south side of the roadway.
This project is one of the city’s Quality of Life Enhancement projects as described in the Imagine Hudsonville 2030 Master Plan. The public investments that have been taking place have gained interest from existing and potential businesses.
